Someone proposed the idea of “Trade Babysitting” or “Trade Play Dates” to me. Basically, it sounds like: I dump my kids off at your house for x amount of time, and that entitles you to dump your kids at my house for the same x amount of time. Sounds fair, right?
Not to me.
What happens if your kids totally suck? What if your kids were completely unruly? What if they don’t adapt to change very well? What happens if your parenting skills and theories don’t match? What if your views on discipline differ? What happens if your kid bullies my kid? What happens if my kid kicks your kid’s butt? What if 3 hours with your kid is relatively worse than 3 hours with my kids?
I would choose to just avoid the whole situation altogether.
Thanks, but no thanks.
The concept sounds good, and I’m sure it works with other people and their kids, but I think I would have to pass on this idea.
Then again, maybe I’m just too overprotective.
Meh.
