I had a discussion on “what is the most popular hip hop verse in all time”?
I guess we had to set the parameters and criteria straight.
It had to be a verse that people could recognize after a few words, it had to be a verse that people knew fully, it had to be a verse that was 8 bars or longer.
Many many verses were thrown out on the table.
Biggie, Snoop Dogg, Jay-z (of course), 50 Cent, Eminem, all the greats were thrown on the table. Excuses and arguments were thrown out… “Kids in China don’t even know who that is!” “You don’t even know all the words to that verse!” It was fun and challenging to think how far hip hop has spanned the globe, and spanned generations. Music that we all grew up on, music that changed cultures and broke down barriers, and it was all coming together in one night.
Many of us all agreed to disagree, but in the end, there was one choice that was no refuted as top 3…
